History of the Palace
Palazzo Francavilla’s main entrance is in via Ruggiero Settimo and it overlooks Piazza Verdi opposite Teatro Massimo.
It was built in 1783 as country house of the Dukes of Sperlinga; it benefited from the town enlargement in 1778.
In 1893 Luigi Majorca and Mortillaro Earl of Francavilla, heir of the Dukes of Sperlinga, the original owners of the Palace, summoned architect Ernesto Basile, who was at that time working for the building of Teatro Massimo, in order to embellish and renovate the Palace according to the canons of that time.
